The Backbone Alphabet
July 7, 2017 | Gallery C3 | Charlotte, NC

If you want to learn your ABC’s in an entirely new way, come to Martin Settle’s exhibit and book launch called The Backbone Alphabet. The show is both fun and provocative. On one level, it’s about Settle’s love affair with letter shapes, fonts, and graphic design. On a deeper level, it is about philosophy, linguistics, art, science, history, and more. This is all done with a sense of play and discovery.

All 26 letters (pages from the book) have been enlarged, framed, and hung on the wall – 26 designs with introductory and concluding poems. Accompanying these designs are assemblage sculptures that further the themes of these mysterious symbols called “the alphabet.”

Come join us at Gallery C3 for an eclectic experience by an artist that is a visual designer, a poet, and an assemblage artist. You’ll rediscover the joys of language.

The ceiling mounted backbone alphabet sculpture can now be seen at Imaginon in Charlotte, NC
